EQ Acoustics Kilo Wool Serge is the industry standard material for acoustic curtains and drapes. Due to its unique high density composition, the fabric is an effective sound absorber across a wide range of frequencies.

Kilo Serge is commonly used in theatres and music performance spaces to dampen reverberation, resulting in greater sound clarity. In recording studios it offers similar benefits leading to tighter sounding recordings and more accurate monitoring.

Kilo Serge also offers modest levels of sound reduction. When hung across a door or window it will help increase privacy. Do consider that truly effective sound proofing requires secondary glazing, heavy doors etc, but where a small improvement is required this material may offer an acceptable solution.

For best results, Kilo Serge should be ‘gathered’ although it can also be used flat. If you plan to make curtains ensure you use a strong rail which can take the weight.

“…been able to test effect of new curtains. Three ply curtains containing ordinary lining, your Kilo Serge and a good quality medium weight material effectively reduced the SPL of the Denon test tone by 11 dB – from 74 to 63 on a Radio Shack digital meter.

This I regard as most satisfactory. I do not know the frequency of the test tone but would guess it is somewhere around 3000 Hz. I would estimate that the higher the frequency the more effective it would be and low frequency of no benefit – as expected.”
